Tech Flies Over Eagles to Start Warrior Classic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 14-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Judson University 80-41 Friday evening in the first game of the Warrior Classic inside the Schaefer Center.

Emma Tuominen notched her third double-double of the season with a season-best 16 points (6-9 shooting) to go along with 12 rebounds, which tied her career-best. Erika Foy had 16 points, eight rebounds and two steals while Taya Andrews contributed 11 points, three rebounds and two blocks.

Tech clamped down early on the Eagles by not allowing a field goal from the visitors until the 1:20 mark of the first quarter, which snapped a seven minute and 30-second scoring drought for Judson. The Warriors got out to a 13-2 lead during the drought and never looked back as they held a 20-6 lead at the first quarter break.

The Warriors kept the defensive pressure on the Eagles throughout the second as they allowed just two points on one field goal over the first five-and-a-half minutes of the period and grew the lead to 31-8 following an 8-0 run. Judson cut the deficit down to 34-18 with 2:07 to play in the half, but the Orange and Black kept them off the scoreboard for the remainder of the quarter to take a 40-18 lead into the locker room.

The Eagles started the third with a three-pointer from Mercedes Rhodes, but the Warriors responded with a 6-0 spurt to push the lead to 46-21 and Judson was never able to get the deficit under 20 for the rest of the game as Tech led by as many as 41 points.

Tech (4-0) returns to action Saturday as they take on Mount Vernon Nazarene University, who fell in the second game of the day to Rochester University, 84-72, in the final game of the Warrior Classic. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
