Warriors Get Past Blue Devils with Strong Second Half Performance

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team knocked off Lawrence Technological University, 78-65, Wednesday evening inside Don Ridler Fieldhouse.
 
Cory McKinney and Josh Kline had a game-high 17 points, with the former adding six rebounds and five assists while the latter collected eight rebound, four assists, two blocks and two steals while going 8-9 from the floor. Grant Smith added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists while Rog Stein had 14 points off the bench.
 
Lawrence Tech jumped out to a 10-3 at the 16:11 mark and grew the lead to 26-15 with 8:49 left in the opening quarter. Following a back-and-forth exchange of buckets, the Warriors started to chip away at the deficit. A basket from Smith at the 6:29 mark started a 15-3 run for Tech and the Orange and Black took advantage of a 4:56 scoring drought from the Blue Devils to cut the advantage to 35-32 with 2:18 to play. LTU snapped their drought with a triple from Carter Frantz at the 1:19 mark, but a bucket from McKinney and a layup from Jeremey Luciani at the buzzer brought Tech within two points as LTU took a 38-36 lead into the locker room.
 
Tech took the lead four possessions into the second half while a triple from Max Perez made it a 43-41 lead for the visitors at the 18:21 mark and the Warriors never looked back. Perez's triple sparked an 8-0 run for Tech to go ahead 48-41 with 16:20 on the clock. LTU cut the deficit down to 49-47 at the 14:35 mark, but a free throw from Smith sparked an 18-5 run to put the Orange and Black up 67-52 with 8:08 to go. LTU never got the lead under 12 the rest of the game as the Warriors won their 11th straight game against the Blue Devils and improved to 16-1 all-time against them.
 
Tech (15-7, 6-1 WHAC) is scheduled to be back in action on Wednesday, February 17 as they host Concordia University. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. from the Schaefer Center. Saturday's contest against Madonna University has been postponed.
