Warriors Cool Off Blue Devils for Eighth Straight Win

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Lawrence Technological University, 63-47, Wednesday evening inside Don Ridler Fieldhouse to notch its eight straight win.

Alexis Hill scored a game-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds, while Erika Foy had 15 points and six rebounds. Emma Tuominen and Kyra Whitaker both had 10 points, with the former grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds.

Tech used a stingy defensive effort to limit the Blue Devils to just 4-21 shooting in the first quarter, but were only able to outscore the hosts 14-12. Lawrence Tech jumped out to a 7-4 lead and held the Warriors scoreless for 5:28 after scoring on their opening two possessions of the game. Foy snapped the drought at the 3:28 mark with her second basket of the game to spark a 10-5 spurt for the visitors to end the opening period.

LTU started the second quarter on a 9-2 run to go up 21-16 and held Tech scoreless for a 2:48 stretch after Hill scored the opening basket of the period. The Blue Devils pushed their lead up to seven with 1:45 left in the half, but the Warriors scored six points over the last 90 seconds of the half to cut the deficit to 28-27 at the break.

Tech found their offensive grove in the third as they went 6-11 from the field while hosting the Blue Devils to just 3-10 shooting over the 10 minutes. Tech retook the lead on their opening possession of the half with a bucket from Foy and the two teams tussled over the next five minutes with the score knotted up at 35 and 5:21 left in the quarter. An old-fashioned three-point play from Hill on the fast break started a 12-4 run for the Warriors that gave them a 47-39 lead at the buzzer.

The Warriors continued to push their lead over the final 10 minutes of action, holding the Blue Devils to just eight points on 3-16 shooting while doubling up their point total on 5-10 shooting. The Orange and Black used a 6-1 run, coupled with a 3:38 scoring drought from LTU to push the advantage to 53-40 and the Warriors never looked back. The Warriors never let the lead slip back into single digits while they led by as many as 19 to run their conference winning streak to 22 games.

Tech (19-1, 7-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they host Madonna University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
