Women's Wrestling Defeats Lourdes 29-14

SYLVANIA, Ohio – Women's wrestling traveled to Lourdes tonight for their final regular season Mid-South matchup where the Warriors came out victorious 29-14.

Due to roster size, there were four forfeits and one double forfeit in the match. Whitley Blake, Samantha Snow, Glenda Veiga and Lily Kirk all recorded forfeit victories in the match.

Korigan Wilkey took the mat for the first match of the night at 109 against Mattalynn Meek. Meek started aggressive scoring the first two points of the match with an early takedown. This only motivated Wilkey then picked Meek up and returned her to the mat on her back for four points before getting to Meek's ankles for two rolls and four more points to lead 8-2 after the first period. Wilkey kept her momentum into the second period with a quick takedown to get within two of the tech fall. Wilkey defended a shot by Meek and returned Meek to the mat for a takedown and the 12-2 tech fall victory in just 4:10.

Tehani Soares wrestled up a weight class to 116 against Stefana Jelecic. Jelecic dominated from the jump and scored ten straight points to win 10-0 in 2:51. Riley Horvath also wrestled up for Tech at 123 where she faced Marisol Romo. Romo had a quick takedown for a 2-0 lead before Horvath took advantage of Romo's next shot. Horvath got Romo in a headlock and sent her to the mat on her back where Horvath worked to get the pin in 2:17.

Korissa VanOver represented the Warriors at 130, also up a weight class, where she took on Theresa Rankin. Rankin had a quick takedown followed by three rolls to lead 8-0. Rankin recorded another takedown shortly after the reset to win the match 10-0. Alexandra Mireles wrestled for Tech at 136 against Akemi Garcia. Garcia started the first period with a pushout followed by a late takedown to lead 3-0 after the first period. Mireles was pushed out again for another point to Lourdes before Garcia took control and put Mireles to her back for the pin.

With the forfeit wins, the Warriors came out victorious with the 29-14 win for their second victory in the Mid-South Conference and this season. Tech is back in action next weekend, Saturday, February 20th, when they travel to the Mid-South Conference Tournament set to start at 10 a.m.
