ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Men's ice hockey continued their success up at WHAC rival Rochester today when they defeated Rochester 8-3.
Tech came out of the gate ready to play scoring their first goal at the 14:20 mark when
Adam Vannelli found the back of the net from
Zach Bennett and
Vaughn Treppa on a power play. About six minutes later Rochester tied it up with a goal from Billy Mihelich. Exactly three minutes later
Vannelli struck again with the assist by fellow defenseman
Axel Low to put Tech ahead 2-1. At 4:52 Rochester got a penalty that resulted in a power play for Indiana Tech.
Joel Holmberg made sure to take advantage of the situation and scored at the 3:20 mark with assists by
Filip Schultz and
Alex Arnold. Tech ended the first period up 3-1.
Rochester opened the second period with back to back goals, only two minutes apart with the second goal being a power play goal to tie the game 3-3 with 13:36 on the clock. Eight minutes later Tech answered with
Holmberg once again from
Arnold at the 5:15 minute mark. Under three minutes later the pair connected again on a power play to give Indiana Tech a 5-3 lead. The Warriors weren't done yet. With 54 seconds left in the second
Cam Chabot scored from
Bennett and
Pete Cascagnette and then Tech scored again with 23 seconds left with
Vannelli once again from
Low and
Bear Ross. Indiana Tech led 7-3 after two periods of play.
Indiana Tech kicked the defense up a notch and held Rochester scoreless while the Warriors scored a short-handed goal by
Chabot unassisted. Tech won the game 8-3 to advance to 2-1 in the WHAC and 3-5 overall.
Tech is back in action tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. where they host Rochester for another meeting of the Warriors.
