FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Men's ice hockey shuts out conference rival Rochester 7-0.
The Warriors started out strong with a goal in the first five minutes of the game.
Bear Ross found the back of the net unassisted to give Tech a 1-0 lead. Before the period ended
Alex Arnold had a breakaway on a power play where he dodged a defender a flipped it over the goalie's shoulder to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Tech had back-to-back goals in the middle of the second period where
Zach Bennett slipped the puck past the goalkeeper with assists from
Alex Potter and
Cam Chabot followed by a goal from
Filip Schultz from teammates
Joel Holmberg and
Cole Barney. The Warriors led 4-0 heading into the final period.
The Warriors opened the third with a goal under two minutes in from
Chabot assisted by
Bennett and
Potter. At almost the halfway mark,
Cole Barney found the back of the net from
Axel Low and
Schultz before
Chabot struck again just a minute later when the Warriors were shorthanded from
Nick Papandrea and
Adam Vannelli. This gave the Warriors the 7-0 shut out victory to advance them to 3-1 in the conference.
Ty Barnhill earns his first career shut out with 16 saves in net while there were 63 saves between the two Rochester goalies.
Tech is back in action on Wednesday, February 17
th when they travel to Calvin College.
