FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Women's tennis opened the 2021 season continuing their win streak with a 7-0 victory over Saginaw Valley State earlier today.
Abigail Simms and
Isidora Hrnjak competed at the number one doubles spot where they defeated Sara Neves and Chelsea Dzenga 6-4.
Vero Jimenez and
Marianna Murcia had an impressive 6-3 win at the number two doubles position while
Martina Borges and
Thaina Carvalho battled for a victory in the number three position where they won 7-6 with a 7-2 tiebreaker.
Jimenez went on to dominate in the number one singles position with 6-2 and 6-1 wins.
Abigail Simms lost the first set 7-5 and rallied back to win the second 6-3 and dominated in the third with a 10-5 win to continue the success for the Warriors.
Murcia made her college debut with 6-0 and 6-2 wins to win her first singles match at the number three spot.
Borges won at the number four position with a 7-6 win in the first set after a 7-5 tiebreaker and won the second 6-4.
Ana Gomez also made her college debut today with two 6-2 wins to seal a victory at the number five spot while
Thaina Carvalho also started her college career with a win. She won the first set 6-2 and started down 0-1 in the second set before her competitor had to retire due to an injury.
With no losses in the match, the Warriors continued their success from the fall with a 7-0 win to make this their third match this year where their opponent scored no points.
The Warriors are back on the court on Friday, February 19
th when they host IU-East at 12 p.m.
