ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Men's basketball runs out of steam and loses 73-60 to Rochester.
Tech jumped out to a 4-0 lead early only for Rochester to go on a 4-0 run later and tie the game 6-6. A pair of free throws for
Josh Kline gave Tech back a two-point lead before Rochester made a layup to tie the game again (8-8). Tech made another pair of free throws only for Rochester to score five unanswered and take a 13-10 lead with 10:53 on the clock. The back-and-forth scoring then began with Tech tying the game 16-16 at 9:46. Rochester rallied for a 12-0 run for a 28-16 lead with 5:42 left in the first half. Tech began to try and dig their way back into the game and ended the half down ten (37-27).
Cory McKinney scored the first basket of the second half to later spring the Warriors into a 5-0 run to get within four of Rochester (38-34). This began the two teams trading points until the 11:49 mark when Tech strung together five points to be within two (50-48) with 11:13 left in the game. The two teams then went about three minutes with no scoring until Rochester knocked down a three. A the 6:32 mark, Rochester started their 7-0 run to lead by ten with just 5:00 remaining. Tech was unable to get closer than nine for the remainder of the game and Rochester ended the game with seven more points to take the 73-20 conference win.
Tech was led by
Grant Smith who recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals while
Rog Stein came off the bench and contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Kline tallied ten points and two rebounds in the game.
As a team, Tech shot 36.2 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from three-point land and 71.4 percent at the charity stripe. The Warriors recorded 20 points in the paint, 12 second chance points, 22 bench points and six points off turnovers.
The Warriors will be playing again tomorrow, Sunday February 21
st for their senior day against WHAC opponent Lourdes set to start at 3 p.m.
