Buzzer Beater by Grant Pushes Men's Basketball Past Lourdes 81-80

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Men's basketball comes out victorious over Lourdes 81-80 with a buzzer beating three from Grant Smith.

The first half began with instant back-and-forth action with multiple ties and lead changes. Lourdes was down 10-9 at the 14:38 mark before rallying for an eight-point run to take the largest lead of the game (17-10). Jeremy Luciani stopped the run with a layup and sparked a 10-0 run by the Warriors to gain a three-point lead (22-19) with 10:51 left in the half. Back-to-back threes from Cory McKinney and Jeremy Davison gave Tech a seven-point lead before Lourdes hit a three just 20 seconds later. The Gray Wolves worked to tie the game at 37-37 and 39-39 before Tech scored the final three points of the half to lead 42-39.

Lourdes started the second half with a three to tie the game 42-42 and took the 44-42 lead shortly after. Smith hit a jumper to tie the game 44-44 only for Lourdes to take the 46-44 lead. A 5-0 run by Tech gave them a 49-46 advantage with 15:32 on the clock. The two teams began trading baskets with no one being able to score more than four in a row until Tech hit back-to-back three to take a 66-60 lead at the 7:45 mark. The Gray Wolves answered with a 7-0 run to take a one-point lead (67-66) with just 5:27 left to play. The Warriors scored five in a row to take back the lead only for the Gray Wolves to crawl their way back into the game and lead 80-78 with just 1.3 seconds on the clock. A hail mary pass from the far endline by Rog Stein is caught by Smith at the opposite three-point line where he throws up an off-balance three and swishes it for the 81-80 win over Lourdes.

The Warriors were led by Smith with 19 points while McKinney added 18, Stein added 14 and Davison added 14. Stein led with eight rebounds and McKinney recorded five assists. As a team, the Warriors shot 51.7 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent from three and 71.4 percent from the foul line. Tech had 28 points in the pain, 12 fast break points, 13 points off turnovers and 18 points off the bench.

The Warriors are back on the court tomorrow when they travel to Siena Heights for an 8 p.m. tip for their last regular season game.
