FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Men's volleyball battles conference rival Aquinas in four sets to come out victorious 3-1.
The Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the first set until Aquinas tied it up 4-4. A 3-0 run later gave Tech a four-point lead (10-6) with kills from
Chase Christiansen and
Mason Milan. The Saints rallied for a 6-1 run to take a 12-11 lead, their first lead of the set. The Warriors responded with three straight points to take back a 14-12 lead. The set was tied three more times before Tech finished the set with a 9-0 run to win the first set 25-16.
Aquinas opened the second set with a 4-1 lead and extended it to an 8-4 lead. The two teams began trading points until the Warriors were able to string three points together and tie the set 13-13. After the Saints took a 14-13 lead, Tech responded with a 4-0 run to take a 17-14 lead. The Saints went on a 3-0 run late to get within one (23-22) before the Warriors closed out the second set with a 25-23 win to lead 2-0 in the match.
The Saints led 6-3 in the third set before the two teams began trading points. The Warriors scored three-straight to tie the set 9-9 only for Aquinas to go on a 4-0 run to lead 14-10. Tech was able to get within two (16-14) before Aquinas took over to maintain their lead and eventually scored three in a row to win the third set 25-19 and send the match into a fourth.
The back-and-forth action began from the start of the fourth set with Aquinas taking a 10-7 lead. The Warriors rallied to tie the set 13-13 before the set was tied two more times. The Saints had a 3-0 run to lead 18-15 only to be answered by three-straight points from Tech to tie the set 18-18. The set was tied three more times before the Warriors gained momentum and scored four-straight to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
The Warriors were led by
Mason Milan with a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs with a .212 hitting percentage.
Daynte Stewart recorded 13 kills and eight digs while
Dante Siracusa earned at .455 hitting percentage with 11 kills.
Brandon Jones led Tech with 32 assists and recorded three kills and nine digs.
Joey Hermes led the Warriors with 12 digs and added six assists in the match.
Tech is back on the court Wednesday, March 3
rd when they host #15 Goshen at 7 p.m.
