FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team continued its quest for its third consecutive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament title as the two-seed defeated conference foe Siena Heights, 65-33, in semifinal action on Saturday afternoon.
Erika Foy led all scorers with 24 points with
Taya Andrews following behind with 14 points and six rebounds.
The Warriors were quick out of the gate, as they found themselves up 11-0 just over halfway through the first quarter of action. Foy finished out the quarter with a layup as Tech held their opponents to just four points in the opening ten minutes of play.
Tech maintained their early acquired lead as they opened into quarter number two. A three from Foy helped break things open for the Warriors, as they would go on to put their opponents in a 20-point hole. That lead would grow into a 39-15 advantage at the half with Foy tallying 20 of her 24 points in the first half.
With just two ten-minute quarters away from moving on, the Orange and Black remained hot; converting a three-point shot from
Taya Andrews for a 30-point advantage mid-way through the third quarter. Leading the Saints 56-21, the Warriors began the final quarter of regulation with the same momentum they thrived on the entire game. With their opponents shooting just 25% from their field and having knocked in only one three point shot the entire game, Tech wrapped up a 65-33 victory and a chance at the WHAC Tournament Championship.
The Orange and Black will host Concordia University-Ann Arbor Monday evening in the championship game of the WHAC Tournament, with the winner receiving the WHAC's second automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
