Warriors Split with Fifth-Ranked Knights

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team earned a hard-fought split with No. 5-ranked Marian University Saturday afternoon at Warrior Park, winning game one 3-2 and falling 5-0 in the second contest.

How It Happened
  • After falling behind 1-0 in the third, Tech scored three times in the fourth inning to take the lead. A triple from Emma Kelley knotted the game up at 1-1 while Kennedi Sullivian smacked a double to left field to score Kelley and Olivia Watson.
  • The Knights had the go-ahead run on the basepaths in the top of the seventh, but Amanda Shonka worked out of the two-on, nobody out jam with three straight outs to close out the complete game and the win for Tech.
  • Marian used a four-run second inning to go up 5-0 on Tech while allowing just three hits over the game and working around five walks to complete the shutout to salvage the split.

Inside the Box Score
  • Mia Martinez worked 5.2 innings of shutout ball in relief in game two, scattering six hits and one walk to keep the game in striking distance.
  • Shonka and Sullivan both went 2-3 from the plate in game one while the former scattered six hits over seven innings while striking out four batters.

Tech (4-4) returns to action on Tuesday as they host Huntington University in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. from Warrior Park.
