RT WAYNE, Ind. – Women's volleyball sweeps Siena Heights on senior day.
The Saints started the match with a 7-0 lead in the first set before the Warriors were able to earn the serve. A 6-0 run from Tech with three kills by
Calista Helinski got the Warriors back in the game. Tech then worked to tie the set four times before three-straight points gave the Warriors their first lead 14-12. Back-and-forth scoring began for the two teams before Tech had a 4-0 rally to extend their lead 20-16. The Warriors led 24-20 before the Saints stole momentum for a 4-0 run to tie the set 24-24. Tech scored the final two points with kills from
Helinski and
Emma Westra to win the first set 26-24.
Tech started the second set scoring the first two points until the back-and-forth action began again. The Warriors led 6-3 before the Saints scored three-points consecutively to tie the set 6-6. The set was then tied three more times before the Warriors had a 5-0 run to lead 15-10. Tech extended their lead to 18-11 and then 20-12. The Saints had a push at the end of the set where they scored three to get within six (24-18) before Tech scored the set point to win the second set 25-18 and lead 2-0 in the match.
The Warriors led the third set 3-0 off the start before Siena Heights worked to tie the set 6-6. The set was then tied at 7-7 and 8-8 before the Warriors had a 3-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. Siena Heights tied the set at 11-11 and three more times until
Amaya Anderson tallied two kills to earn the Warriors a 17-14 lead. Later Tech led 21-17 before the Saints put together four points to get within one (22-21). Tech's kill from
Madelyn Omo made it match point (24-21) but the Saints did not give up. They scored two more before the Warriors ended the set 25-23 and won the match 3-0.
Anderson led the Warriors with 10 kills and a .421 hitting percentage.
Helinski recorded nine kills while
Westra had six.
Genna Karbowski shined on senior night with 22 assists and eight digs while recording two kills.
Jacey Blust led Tech with 20 digs and added four assists while
Madysn Cardinal earned 11 digs.
