Women's Volleyball Downs Concordia 3-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Women's volleyball takes down Concordia 3-0 in their conference match last night.

Concordia opened the first set with a 2-0 lead and led 4-2 before the Warriors rallied for five straight points with Andrea Schriver at the serve to take a 7-4 lead. The two teams began trading points with neither team able to score more than two points consecutively. The Cardinals got back within one (16-15) before Tech managed a 4-0 run with Schriver serving once again to lead 20-15. Concordia answered with three points, but Tech earned back the serve off an attack error and made the most of it scoring four more points to make is set point 24-18. The Cardinals did not give up and rallied for four points themselves to make the score 24-22 before the Warriors were able to notch the final point and win the first set 25-22.

The Warriors opened the second set with a 6-0 run with Taylor Paul recording three of the six points. Concordia put three on the board before Tech scored five more to extend their lead 11-3. The Warriors only allowed the Cardinals to score one point at a time while Tech continued to advance their lead. Concordia scored to make the score 16-7 before the Warriors went on a scoring spree and had a 9-0 run to win the set 25-7. Mallory Green was at the serve during the nine-point run and recorded two service aces while Amaya Anderson recorded two kills.

Tech started the third set with a 5-1 lead and extended it to 9-3 with a service ace from Olivia Gessner and a kill by Paul in a 3-0 run. Another 3-0 run later by the Warriors with Genna Karbowski notching a service ace and both Paul and Havilyn Cummings earning kills gave Tech a 13-5 lead. After going down 17-9, the Cardinals rallied for a 5-0 run to get within three (17-14). An attack error gave the Warriors back the serve before the two teams started the back-and-forth action again. Tech was able to come out victorious with the final kill by Madelyn Omo to earn the 25-19 set victory and the 3-0 match win.

Olivia Niekamp led Tech with nine kills and recorded two digs in the match while Paul tallied with kills and one dig. Omo had seven kills and two block assists. Karbowski led with 17 assists and earned seven digs and one kill while Schriver had 12 assists and two digs. The five-time WHAC Defensive Player of the Week led the team once again with 23 digs and added five assists.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, March 20th when they travel to Cornerstone for a conference rival match at 1 p.m.
