Baseball Goes 2-2 over the Weekend

WESTFIELD, Ind. – Baseball goes 2-2 on the weekend with games against Olivet Nazarene and Campbellsville.

The Warriors started the four-game weekend on Friday against Olivet Nazarene at Grand Park. Tech was down 3-0 after the top of the seventh inning and went on to hold Olivet scoreless in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, Trevor Patterson walked to get on base before Spenser McGhee got hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out. Mike Snyder then hit a singled to left field to score Patterson and move McGhee to second. Jacob Daftari then walked to load the bases before Christian De Los Santos was also hit by a pitch to score McGhee and put the Warriors within one (3-2) with just one inning left. Olivet Nazarene scored two more runs in the top of the ninth and Tech could not get any momentum and lost the first game of the weekend 5-2.

De Los Santos went 1-for-2 in the box while Jake Ritson and Snyder were 1-for-3 and both Reese Olden and Patterson went 1-for-4. Charles Dunavan took the loss on the mound pitching 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.

Tech then went on to Saturday where they had a doubleheader against Olivet Nazarene. Olivet Nazarene scored first in the top of the third with three runs, but the Warriors quickly answered. Alex Vydick walked to be the first on base before Patterson singled to put runners on first and second with only one out. Olden then singled to load the bases. A strike out made it a bases loaded with two outs situation when De Los Santos walked up to the plate. De Los Santos singled to score both Vydick and Patterson and put the Warriors within one (3-2) after the third inning. Tech got on the board again in the bottom of the fifth. Vydick singled to start the rally before Patterson bunted for a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. A sacrifice bunt from Olden put two runners in scoring position when Snyder hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Vydick and tie the game 3-3. With two outs, De Los Santos walked before Jacob Alvidrez singled to score both Patterson and Alex Mitchell who came to pinch run for De Los Santos for the Warriors to lead 4-3. Neither team scored the rest of the game and the Warriors won 4-3.

Patterson was 2-for-4 at the plate while De Los Santos was 2-for-2 and Alvidrez was 1-for-1. Olden batted 1-for-2 and Vydick was 1-for-1 as well. Hayes Sturtsman earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts in four innings.

The second game on Saturday started with Olivet Nazarene scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. They scored three more in the top of the fourth to lead 5-0 before the Warriors got on the board. In the bottom of the fourth De Los Santos doubled and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Alvidrez hit De Los Santos home on a ground out to shortstop for the Warriors first run of the game. The Warriors then loaded the bases and Patterson worked for the walk to bring in Christian Mojica from third and get the Warriors within three (5-2). Tech scored again in the bottom of the sixth when Ritson walked followed by a single from Alex Mitchell to put runners on first and second with one out. Vydick put the ball in play to score Ritson and get the Warriors within two (5-3) after six innings. In the bottom of the seventh the Warriors started a rally with Olden hitting a single followed by Snyder hitting a double to score Olden. Tech was now within one run of Olivet Nazarene and tied the game when Alvidrez hit a single to score Snyder from second. The game was tied 5-5 and was sent into extra innings. Olivet Nazarene scored in the top of the eleventh and then recorded three straight outs to defeat the Warriors 6-5 in eleven innings.

Alex Mitchell was 2-for-3 at the plate while Ritson was 1-for-3. Both Alvidrez and Olden were 1-for-5 in the box while Snyder went 2-for-6 and De Los Santos was 1-for-6. Yeshua Saint took the loss on the mound pitching 2.0 innings with no strikeouts.

Tech's final game of the weekend came on Sunday when the Warriors faced Campbellsville. The Warriors were the first on the board when Patterson doubled and then Snyder hit a single to score Patterson. Tech led 1-0 after the first inning. In the bottom of the third the Warriors had a scoring spree starting when De Los Santos singled to score Jayden Reed from second base. Jacob Daftari then singled to load the bases with one out. Alvidrez stepped up to the plate and singled to score both De Los Santos and Snyder. An error in the field caused by a ball put in play by Vydick scored Daftari followed by a wild pitch that scored Alvidrez to give the Warriors a 6-0 lead after three innings. Between the fourth and fifth innings Tech scored three more runs to lead 9-0 before the Tigers rallied for three runs in the sixth and seventh to get within three (9-6). Tech held the Tigers scoreless to win the game 9-6.

Both Snyder and Reed went 1-for-3 at the plate while both Daftari and Olden were 2-for-4. Ryan Troxel won the game on the mound while Jared Maxfield earned the save. Troxel pitched five innings with one strikeout while Maxfield pitched three with four strikeouts.

The Warriors are back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 17th when they host Bethel on Warrior Field at 5 p.m.
