FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Baseball dominates Bethel 20-2 for their first win on Warrior Field this season.
The Warriors scored their first run in the bottom of the second which started with
Jacob Alvidrez hitting a single to right field.
Jake Ritson then put the ball in play to have runners on first and second with two outs. Both
Ritson and
Alvidrez stole bases and
Alvidrez capitalized on an error to score the first run of the game.
Tech scored two more in the bottom of the third starting with
Alex Vydick getting on base and then
Parker Bates coming in to pinch run.
Bates stole second to put himself into scoring position before
Trevor Patterson singled up the middle to score
Bates.
Patterson then advanced to second on a bunt from
Reese Olden before
Mike Snyder singled to left field before advancing to second on the fielder's throw to third. Runners were on second and third with one out when
Christian De Los Santos stepped up to the plate.
De Los Santos hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored
Patterson for the Warriors to lead 3-0.
Bethel answered with a solo homerun in the top of fourth to get back within two (3-1) before the Warriors had more offensive action in the bottom of the inning.
Alvidrez walked and
Ashtin Moxey earned a walk to have runners on first and second with one out.
Vydick put the ball in play to advance the runners to second and third with two outs.
Patterson stepped up to the plate and doubled to right center to score both
Moxey and
Alvidrez and give Tech the 5-1 lead after four innings.
In the top of the fifth Bethel scored again to make it 5-2. Tech responded in the bottom of the sixth scoring ten runs. A sacrifice fly by
Patterson scored
Ritson followed by
Yeshua Saint hitting a single up the middle that scored
Moxey and ultimately led to the error that scored
Bates. The Warriors led 8-2 when
Snyder doubled through the left side to score
Saint. There were runners on first and third when
Micah O'Donnell got his first at bat where he hit
Snyder in from third for the Warriors to lead 10-2. The bases were loaded when
Moxey singled to the pitcher to score
O'Donnell from third before
Alex Mitchell earned the walk to score
Alvidrez. The inning ended with
Patterson hitting a triple to centerfield that scored
Ritson, Moxey and
Mitchell for the Warriors to lead 15-2 after six.
Another run in the bottom of the seventh gave the Warriors a 16-2 lead and in the bottom of the eighth a double from
Jayden Reed started a rally.
Reed was on second,
Mitchell walked to first and
Saint was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.
Parker Bates stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam to score four runs for the Warriors and earn Tech the 20-2 win over Bethel.
Patterson was 3-for-3 at the plate with one run and seven RBIs while
Bates was 2-for-2 with four runs and four RBIs.
Moxey went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI while
Ritson went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Patterson, Snyder and
Reed all recorded doubles in the game while
Patterson earned the only triple and
Bates the only home run for the Warriors.
Jesse Burch earned his first win of his career for Tech pitching three innings with one strikeout.
The Warriors are back in action Friday, March 19
th at 3 p.m. when they host Saint Ambrose for the first of a three game series.
