FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Men's ice hockey completes season sweep of Davenport with a 6-3 win on Friday and a 6-3 win on Saturday for senior day.
On Friday the Warriors traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a 12:30 p.m. puck drop against the Panthers.
Joel Holmberg scored the first goal just over six minutes into the first period with the assist from
Filip Schultz to earn the Warriors the 1-0 lead after the first period. To start the second period
Alex Arnold found the back of the next just two minutes in from
Nick Papandrea for Tech to lead 2-0. Davenport then stole momentum and scored two goals during the remainder of the second period to tie the game 2-2 after two periods of play. The Panthers scored the first goal of the third period to lead 3-2 before
Matej Krasny scored for the Warriors unassisted to tie the game 3-3 with about 12 minutes left to play Tech scored three more goals from
Schultz, Cole Barney and
Vaughn Treppa to win the game 6-3.
Ryan O'Toole earned the win in the net with 23 saves.
Tech then hosted Davenport for their senior night on Saturday. Once again, the Warrior scored the first goal just over six minutes.
Schultz scored from
Fabian Granqvist and
Treppa to lead 1-0. The Panthers answered just over a minute a later to tie the game 1-1 with about 12 minutes left in the first period.
Adam Vanelli then found the back of the net from
Cam Chabot for the Warriors to lead 2-1 after the first period.
Zach Bennett opened the second period with a goal assisted by
Treppa and
Axel Low to put the Warriors ahead 3-1. About four minutes later Davenport scored to get back within one (3-2).
Krasny took advantage of a powerplay and scored from
Vannelli and
Bennett to extend Tech's lead to two (4-2) to end the second period. Both
Arnold and
Krasny notched goals in the third period for the Warriors to lead 6-2 before Davenport attempted a comeback and scored one more time before time ran out and Tech won the game 6-3.
Both
Bryson Linenburg and
Ryan O'Toole were in net with
Linenburg notching 18 saves and
O'Toole recorded 11 saves.
The Warriors are back in action for the WHAC Conference Tournament beginning this weekend in Fort Wayne as Indiana Tech is the host.
