GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone ended women's volleyball's four-game win streak yesterday when the Warriors fell 3-0 on the road.
Cornerstone jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first set and extended it 9-3 before
Taylor Paul recorded a kill to give Tech back the serve. The Golden Eagles quickly gained back the serve and led 13-5 and later 16-6. Tech notched two points with kills by
Paul and
Emma Westra before the two teams began trading points. Cornerstone remained in the lead and won the first set 25-18.
The Golden Eagles led 7-2 in the second set and extended it to 10-3 before
Amaya Anderson scored for Tech.
Genna Karbowski then recorded a service ace to get the Warriors within five (10-5). The Golden Eagles gained some momentum and went on a 5-0 run to lead 16-7 before the Warriors answered with a 3-0 run to get within six (16-10).
Anderson recorded three more kills in the set to try and keep Tech in it, but Cornerstone came out with the 25-17 second set win.
The Warriors led 4-2 in the third set before the Golden Eagles tied it up 4-4. The set was then tied 5-5 before Tech earned a 4-0 run where
Madelyn Omo notched two kills for Tech to lead 9-5. The Warriors extended their lead 12-6 and 13-7 before the Golden Eagles took control with a 9-0 run to take a 16-13 lead. The Warriors worked to score three in a row and tied the set 16-16 and again 19-19 before Cornerstone had a 4-0 run to lead 24-21 and eventually won the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Omo led the Warriors with nine kill and one block assist with a .438 hitting percentage.
Andrea Schriver earned 21 assists with four digs while
Jacey Blust recorded 22 digs and three assists.
Tech is back in action on Tuesday, March 23
rd when they travel to Lourdes for a 4 p.m. game.
