FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Both the men's and women's tennis teams defeated Aquinas yesterday 6-1 to both remain undefeated in the WHAC.
The men opened the match with three 6-4 victories in doubles with
Brunno Storani and
Juan Avellaneda in the one,
Jafer Infante and
Raybin Chan in the two and
Tyler Sinclair and
Kayra Kargin in the three.
Storani then moved on to the number one position in singles where he won the first set 6-3 and battled through the second set to win 7-6 with a 10-3 tiebreaker.
Juan Avellaneda won his match at number two with 6-3 and 6-2 set victories while
Emilio Bowen had a hard match at the number three.
Bowen won the first set 7-6 with a 10-4 tiebreaking win followed by losing the second set 6-2 and the third 7-6 with a 10-7 tiebreaker.
Agustin Cortes Flores won at the number four 6-2 and 6-2 before
Chan dominated at the number five with 6-1 and 6-0 set victories.
Infante rounded out the successful day for Tech in the number six with 6-0 and 6-2 set wins for the Warriors to beat Aquinas 6-1.
The women also had three victories in doubles beginning with
Abigail Simms and
Isidora Hrnjak winning a tiebreaking battle 10-5 to win their match 7-6.
Vero Jimenez and
Marianna Murcia dominated their match and won 6-0 while
Carolina Fabbri and
Thaina Carvalho won their match at number three 6-2.
Jimenez then went on to win her singles match at the number one spot 6-2 and 6-0 before
Simms had another tough match at the number two.
Simms lost the first set 7-6 with a 10-5 tiebreaker and the second 6-4.
Murcia had another dominant performance at the number three with two 6-0 set wins before
Martina Borges won at the number four with two 6-1 set victories.
Ana Gomez played at the number five and won 6-2 and 6-2 while
Carvalho dominated her match at number six with 6-0 and 6-0 wins for the Warriors to beat conference rival Aquinas 6-1.
Both teams take the court again on Tuesday, March 23
rd when they face Spring Arbor at 12 p.m. in Fort Wayne.
