Baseball Sweeps Saint Ambrose

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Baseball completed the three-game sweep of Saint Ambrose yesterday when they won both games of the doubleheader by a margin of 16 runs in total.

In the first game, Tech started the scoring in the bottom of the third with a single by Trevor Patterson to score Parker Bates from second followed by Jayden Reed grounding out but scoring Patterson from second for the Warriors to lead 2-0 after three innings. In the top of the fourth Saint Ambrose put up five runs to lead 5-2 and put some pressure on the Warriors. Tech responded in the bottom of the fifth when a sacrifice fly by Mike Snyder that scored Bates led to a scoring spree. Spenser McGhee then singled later to score Patterson followed by a wild pitch that scored McGhee. Ashtin Moxey doubled to score both Christian De Los Santos and Jacob Alvidrez for the Warriors to take back the lead 7-5.

To start the bottom of the sixth, Yeshua Saint hit a home run followed by Alvidrez hitting a single to score both Jake Ritson and McGhee. Tech had a 10-5 lead heading into the final inning. Saint Ambrose attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh by scoring two runs but ran out of steam and the Warriors walked away with a 10-7 win in the first game of the day.
Saint went 1-for-1 at the plater with his homerun while Alex Vydick was 2-for-2 and McGhee went 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Jared Gallagher earned the win with 2.1 innings pitched while Martin Eckard earned the save with one inning pitched.

In the second game Saint Ambrose scored the first run for their only run of the game. The Warriors then went on a scoring spree the remainder of the game beginning in the bottom of the third. Snyder hit a homerun with Patterson on base for an early 2-0 lead followed by a single from Jacob Daftari to score De Los Santos and give Tech a 3-1 lead after three. Tech scored three more in the fourth with another two-run homerun from Snyder. Three more runs in the bottom of the fifth gave Tech a 9-1 lead before the four runs in the bottom of the sixth sealed the 14-1 win for the Warriors in the second game.

Snyder went 2-for-4 at the plate with two homeruns for two runs and five RBIs while Reese Olden was 2-for-2 at the plate with one run and one RBI. Saint earned the win on the mound with five innings pitched with two strikeouts.

Tech is back in action today at 1 p.m. for their first conference games of the season against UM-Dearborn in a doubleheader.
