KOKOMO, Ind. – Baseball traveled to IU-Kokomo for two seven inning games where the Warriors dropped the first game 3-0 but then won the second 15-11.
In the first game, the Cougars scored in the first inning before the Warriors held them scoreless for the next four innings. IU-Kokomo tallied runs in both the fifth and sixth while securing the shutout.
Spenser McGhee took the loss on the mound while
Christian De Los Santos went 2-for-3 in the box.
In the second game, the Cougars scored the first run again in the first inning to lead 2-0 after one. The Warriors answered n the top of the fourth with
Yeshua Saint hitting a single to left center followed by
Mike Snyder hitting a double to left center that scored
Saint for Tech to get on the board.
McGhee then singled to right field to move
Snyder to third before
Micah O'Donnell hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored
Snyder for the Warriors to tie the game 2-2 after four innings.
The Cougars responded to Tech's scoring spree with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 9-2. Tech answered in the top of the fifth with
Jake Ritson and
Alex Mitchell on base when
Reese Olden singled to left field to score
Ritson.
Saint then hit a single to left field to load the bases with no outs.
Snyder hit a single to centerfield to score
Mitchell while
McGhee walked to score
Olden and get Tech within four (9-5).
De Los Santos then reached first on a fielder's choice to score
Saint before
O'Donnell stepped up to the plate and hit a homerun to tie the game 9-9. Later
Olden singled to left field for the Warriors to score again and take a 10-9 lead after five.
In the top of the sixth
O'Donnell hit another homerun for three runs for the Warriors to take a 13-9 lead and extended their lead in the top of the seventh to lead 15-9 with just the bottom of the seventh left to play. IU-Kokomo attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs but then ran out of steam and the Warriors won 15-11.
Alex Vydick was 2-for-3 at the plate while
O'Donnell was 2-for-4 with two runs and six RBIs.
Snyder was 2-for-4 in the box with three runs and two RBIs with
Olden going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Saint went 3-for-5 with three runs.
The Warriors are set to play again this weekend.
