FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Baseball went 2-0 on the day defeating UNOH in a non-conference game and Cedarville.
The Warriors opened the day against UNOH. Tech was held scoreless until the second inning when
Christian De Los Santos got the ball rolling with a single up the middle.
Micah O'Donnell moved
De Los Santos to second before
Reese Olden earned the RBI with a single to left field that scored
De Los Santos from second for Tech to lead 1-0. In the bottom of the third,
Jayden Reed and
Yeshua Saint got on base before
Jacob Daftari had a sacrifice bunt to move the runners.
Mike Snyder then hit a double to left field that scored both
Reed and
Saint. The Warriors weren't done thought.
Snyder advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on a wild pitch for Tech to lead 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth,
O'Donnell walked to be the first on base and then advanced to second on an out at first.
Manuel Ascanio then was up to bat and singled to left center to drive
O'Donnell home. The Warriors now led 5-0 with one out and a runner on second.
Reed singled to make it to first and move
Alex Mitchell, who came in to pinch run, to third.
Saint then doubled to score
Reed and
Mitchell for the Warriors to now lead 7-0. Tech scored one more in the bottom of the fifth with
Spenser McGhee getting on base with a double through the right side.
De Los Santos singled up the middle to score
McGhee and seal the 8-0 win for Tech.
Saint went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and one run while
De Los Santos was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.
Snyder was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.
Ryan Troxel won the game on the mound pitching 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.
In the second game, the Warriors faced Cedarville. Tech scored the first run in the bottom of the second when
De Los Santos hit a solo home run. In the top of the fourth the Yellow Jackets responded with their own solo homer to tie the game 1-1.
Cedarville took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth only for Tech to respond in the bottom of the fifth.
Saint started the action hitting a double to center field and then with two outs
McGhee doubles to right field to score
Saint and tie the game 2-2.
Neither team scored until the bottom of the ninth when
Saint walked to be the first on base. Then
Jake Ritson walked followed by both advancing to second and third on a wild pitch.
Snyder was then intentionally walked and then with one out
De Los Santos stepped up to the plate and hit a ball that popped over the second baseman's head and scored
Saint from third for the Warriors to win 3-2.
Saint started the game on the mound and went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs while
De Los Santos was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run.
Martin Eckard finished the game for Tech pitching the final inning and earning the win while
Saint pitched 4.2 innings with six strikeouts and
Kris Massey pitched 3.1 innings with two strikeouts.
The Warriors are back in action Monday, March 29
th as they travel to Concordia for a WHAC doubleheader set to start at 1 p.m.
