GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team began Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play Friday afternoon with a doubleheader against Cornerstone University, winning the first game in six innings, 9-1, before falling 13-6 in the nightcap.
How It Happened
- A three-run second inning got things going for the Warriors with Ashely Alvey driving in the first run of the game while Rylee Cripe and Natalie Klingberg also picked up RBIs in the inning.
- Tech tacked on four more runs in the sixth thanks to an RBI single from Jamison Turk and a three-run homer from Sydney Caballero.
- Alvey had all the run support she needed in the second as she scattered one hit and one walk across six innings of work to pick up the complete game win, with the lone hit coming with two outs in the sixth in the form of a solo shot.
- The two teams traded three-run third inning frames, with the Warriors using a pair of doubles and a home run to get on the scoreboard while Cornerstone used a pair of doubles to retake the lead at 4-3.
- A two-run homer from Emma Kelly put Tech up 6-4 in the fourth, but the hosts answered with eight runs in the fifth as they took advantage of four walks, an error and a grand slam to give them a 13-6 lead.
