GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Women's volleyball falls to Cornerstone in WHAC Semifinals Friday night.
In the first set, the Warriors led 4-2 and 5-3 in the first set before the Golden Eagles had a 5-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. Later, Tech tied the set 9-9 in a 3-0 run and eventually took a 10-9 lead only for Cornerstone to score three straight and retake the lead (12-10). After a kill by
Taylor Paul, the Golden Eagles had another 4-0 run to extend their lead 16-11. Another 3-0 run and only allowing Tech to score two points at a time allowed the Golden Eagles to win the first set 25-19.
Cornerstone opened the second set with four-straight points. The Warriors answered with a kill from
Emma Westra and another point off an attack error to get within two. The Golden Eagles rallied for three more points to take a 7-2 lead. Later, Cornerstone had another 4-0 run to lead 11-3. The Golden Eagles kept having runs on runs to win the second set 25-15.
The Golden Eagles led in the first set 2-0 before a kill and a block by
Havilyn Cummings paired with a kill by
Calista Helinski earned the Warriors the 3-1 lead. Cornerstone answered with three points to lead 5-3 and later went on a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the match 12-4. A timeout by the Warriors led to a 5-0 run for Tech to get back within four (14-10). Two 3-0 runs by Cornerstone were answered by two 3-0 runs by Tech, but Tech ran out of steam and dropped the third set 25-20 and lost the match 3-0.
Senior
Olivia Niekamp led Tech with seven kills and added two digs while
Paul, Madelyn Omo and
Westra all added five kills apiece.
Andrea Schriver recorded 12 assists and five digs in the match while
Jacey Blust totaled 19 digs and one assist.
