FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Baseball earns the sweep over Grace highlighted by back-to-back homeruns in the second game from
Spenser McGhee at Parkview Field.
The Warriors opened the first game with a run in the bottom of the first.
Jake Ritson walked to be the first runner on base for Tech before moving his way to third and into scoring position.
Christian De Los Santos then stepped up to the plate with two outs and doubled to right centerfield to score
Ritson before the end of the inning. Tech led 1-0 until the bottom of the third when
Alex Vydick got on via error.
Alex Mitchell then came in to pinch run and oved all the way to third before being hit in by
Ritson on a sacrifice fly to put the Warriors ahead 2-0.
Tech scored another run in the bottom of the fourth before having a strong offensive push in the bottom of the fifth. The Warriors had a runner on first and third when
Mike Snyder came up to bat. With two outs,
Snyder doubled to right field to score
De Los Santos and
Ritson before advancing to third on the throw home.
Jacob Alvidrez then walked up to the plate and doubled to right center to score
Snyder and give the Warriors the 6-0 lead. Grace attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh with bases loaded and two outs. The Lancers scored a run on a single from the left side before the Warriors stopped the second run from scoring at home to end the inning and win the seven-inning game 6-1.
Ritson went 1-for-1 at the plate with two runs and one RBI while both
Snyder and
De Los Santos went 1-for-2.
De Los Santos also recorded two runs and one RBI and
Snyder tallied one run and one RBI.
Charles Dunavan earned the win pitching five innings with six strikeouts and no runs allowed.
Grace opened the second game with a run in the top of the first, but that only motivated the Warriors. Tech opened the bottom of the first inning with
Trevor Patterson hitting a single and then moving around to third.
Jacob Daftari hit a single through the left side to score
Patterson and tie the game 1-1.
Yeshua Saint walked followed by stolen bases by
Daftari and
Saint to put runners on second and third with just one out. A single from
Snyder scored
Daftari for the Warriors to take a 2-1 lead.
Manuel Ascanio singled through the left side to score
Saint and put runners on first and second with one out. With his first at bat of the day,
Spenser McGhee walked up to the plate and hit a three-run homer over the right field fence to earn the Warriors a 6-1 lead after one inning.
Tech struck again in the bottom of the third with
Ascanio getting on base with a single up the middle and
Alex Mitchell going in to courtesy run.
McGhee did it again with another homer over the right field fence to score two and give Tech an 8-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth,
Saint hit a triple to deep left centerfield before
Snyder hit him in on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
McGhee tallied another RBI when he doubled on a ground-rule down the left line to score courtesy runner
Alex Mitchell from second and put the Warriors ahead 10-1. Neither team scored the remainder of the game for the Warriors to secure the sweep of Grace.
Ascanio was 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI while
McGhee was 3-for-3 with six RBIs and two runs.
Ryan Troxel earned his third win of the year pitching four innings with five strikeouts while
Kyler Seemann finished the game with four strikeouts.
The Warriors are back in action tomorrow for a conference doubleheader against UNOH set to start at 3 p.m. at Warrior Field.
