A Walk Off Homer in the First Game Propels Tech to Win Both Games of the Doubleheader

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Baseball wins both games of the doubleheader against UNOH yesterday with the first game being won by Yeshua Saint's walk off homerun.

The UNOH Racers set the tone in the first game working to score three runs in the first inning. That only jump started the Warriors to then open the bottom of the first with a triple from Jake Ritson to left field. A walk by Jacob Daftari put two on base with one out when Saint walked up to the plate for his first at bat of the game. He hit a home run over the right field fence for three RBIs and to tie the game 3-3. Three more walks for Tech loaded the bases with one out still before Jayden Reed hit a single to score Christian De Los Santos from third and put the Warriors ahead 4-3 after the first inning.

In the bottom of the second Tech struck again with runners on first and second with one out. Saint was up to bat and he singled to left centerfield to earn another RBI and score Ritson from second. De Los Santos then singled to left field to load the bases with one out and Spenser McGhee up to bat. McGhee hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Daftari who tagged up at third. Mike Snyder put a ball right back up the middle to score Saint and end the second inning with the Warriors leading 7-3.

The Racers answered with one run in the top of the third and then two more in the top of the fourth to get within one (7-6) with half the game left. The Warriors were able to respond in the bottom of the fourth when the warriors had runners on first and third with two outs. An error by the Racers allowed McGhee to score from third and Tech to go ahead by two (8-6).

UNOH woke up the bats again in the top of the fifth with three back-to-back hits that would score two runs and tie the game 8-8 with 2.5 innings left. In the bottom of the sixth, Tech answered with a triple by Daftari to right field. With one out, De Los Santos singled to left field to score Daftari from third and give the Warriors the lead once again (9-8).

In the top of the ninth, the Racers put up two runs off two hits and a sacrifice fly to take a 10-9 lead with just the bottom of the ninth left to play. Tech started the inning with a walk by Reese Olden and he advanced to second on a passed ball to put himself into scoring position. A strikeout for the Warriors was followed by another walk for Ritson for runners on first and second with one out. Daftari then walked to load the bases with one out. Tech scored the tying run on a balk by the pitcher that put runners on second and third with Saint at the plate. Saint sent a deep ball over the centerfield fence for his second homerun of the game and to win the game 13-10 with the walk off and to tally three more RBIs.

Saint went 4-for-5 at the plate in the first game with three runs and a career high seven RBIs. Both De Los Santos and McGhee were 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI while Daftari went 2-for-4 with four runs. Jared Maxfield earned the win for the Warriors with 5.2 innings pitched and six strikeouts.

In game two, Tech kept the bats alive and started in the bottom of the first when Manuel Ascanio singled through the left side as the leadoff batter. Ritson moved the courtesy runner Alex Mitchell to second with a bunt before Daftari walked. Saint was up to bat and recorded another RBI with a single through the left side that score Mitchell from second. The Warriors led 1-0 after the first inning. The Warriors struck again in the bottom of the second with Snyder walking before an error advanced Snyder to third and put Reed on first. Olden hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Snyder from third for the Warriors to lead 2-0.

Tech scored again in the bottom of the fourth to lead 3-0 before UNOH got on the board in the top of the fifth to get within two (3-1). In the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs, De Los Santos doubled to right field. McGhee then stepped to the plate and hit a home run over the right field fence for his third homerun in the last three games. The Warriors now led 5-1.

The Warriors solidified their win with three hits for four runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the second game 9-1 and sweep UNOH in conference play.
