Baseball Tallies Two Seven-Inning Wins over Cleary

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Baseball earns two 14-4 seven-inning wins over Cleary to advance to 10-4 in conference play.

The Warriors opened the first game strong right from the start. In the bottom of the first with one out, Jacob Daftari hit a double to left field that scored Jacob Alvidrez from second before Yeshua Saint hit a double to right center that scored Daftari. The Warriors were up 2-0 with two outs and Saint on third and Spenser McGhee on first when Mike Snyder stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run homer over the right field fence. Later in the inning, the Warriors tallied two more runs to lead 7-0 after the first inning.

In the second inning, with one out, Saint stepped into the box and sent a deep home run over the centerfield fence to extend Tech's lead to eight. Christian De Los Santos then doubled to left field before the Cougars tallied the second out of the inning. Snyder singled to right center to score De Los Santos from second and put Tech ahead 9-0.

The Cougars got on the board in the top of the fourth win one run before the Warriors went on another scoring spree. In the bottom of the inning with two outs McGhee hit a homerun over the right field fence to put the Warriors ahead 10-1. Snyder then earned a walk before Alex Vydick doubled to left field and scored Snyder. Reese Olden then singled through the left side to score Trevor Patterson as the pinch runner for Vydick before Alvidrez doubled to centerfield to score Olden and earn the Warriors a 13-1 lead after four.

The Cougars fought for three runs in the top of the fifth to get within nine. The Warriors scored another in the bottom of the sixth and held Cleary scoreless in the top of the seventh to earn the 14-4 seven-inning win in the first game.

Charles Dunavan won the game for Tech with 4.1 innings pitched with six strikeouts while Phillip Hobbs finished the game pitching 2.2 innings with one strikeout. Saint led Tech in the box going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

In game two the Warriors started strong once again with five hits in the first inning to score four runs and take a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, with Olden on first, Alvidrez tripled down the right field line to score Olden followed by Jake Ritson putting the ball in play to force an error and score Alvidrez. The warriors led 6-0 when two more runs crossed the plate in the second. Later in the inning with two outs, Tech loaded the bases and Manuel Ascanio hit a double to centerfield to score two more runs. One more run for the Warriors would end the second inning with Tech leading 11-0.

In the top of the fourth Cleary had one run pass through home to get within ten (11-1). In the top of the fifth, the Cougars scored three more to make the score 11-4 in favor of the Warriors. McGhee tallied another RBI in the bottom of the fifth to put the Warriors back ahead by eight (12-4) before Tech sealed the 14-4 seven-inning win in the bottom of the seventh.

Ryan Troxel earned his fourth win of the season pitching four innings with eight strikeouts while Ben Lambert pitched on inning with two strikeouts and Jacob Howe ended the game pitching two innings with four strikeouts.

The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, April 21st when the Warriors travel across town for a single game against Fort Wayne rival Saint Francis.
