Women's Tennis Wins First WHAC Tournament Championship in Program History

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Women's tennis defeated UNOH in the WHAC Championship finals 4-2 to earn their first WHAC Tournament Championship in program history.

The Warriors continued to make program history today claiming the WHAC Tournament Championship after winning their first regular season championship with an undefeated regular season. Tech claimed the first seed in the tournament and proved it today by winning the championships 4-1 over UNOH.

The #23 national doubles team, Vero Jimenez and Marianna Murcia, defended their ranking winning at the number two position 6-1 to set the tone for the Warriors in doubles. The Racers tied the doubles portion of the match with a win at the number one position before Ana Gomez and Abigail Simms claimed the advantage for the Warriors with a 6-4 win at the number three. Tech led 1-0 after doubles.

Murcia went on to earn the first win for the Warriors in singles at the number three with two 6-2 set wins for another point for Tech. The Racers won at the number two before Gomez won at the number five with 6-2 and 6-1 set wins. The Warriors were ahead 3-1 with three singles matches left. The Racers won at the number one to get within one when Thaina Carvalho clinched the win for the Warriors with a three-set battle where she took the final two sets 6-0 for Tech to win the championship 4-2.

The Warriors have made even more history with this win earning themselves a trip to the NAIA Nationals on May 18th-22nd in Mobile, Alabama for the first time in program history.
