GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After completing the regular season last week, women's volleyball earned the fourth seed for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament set to start Tuesday, April 6
th.
Tech will host the No. 5 seed on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. for the quarterfinals after being selected as the fourth seed. The Warriors finished the season 15-7 overall and 11-5 in conference. This season, Tech averaged 12.1 kills per set, 11.2 assists per set, 1.3 aces per set, 18.7 digs per set and 1.8 blocks per set. The Warriors were led by
Emma Westra who average 2.33 kills per set while freshman
Taylor Paul averaged 2.13 kills per set. Senior
Olivia Niekamp who reached her 1,000
th kill this season averaged 2.03 kills per set. Tech has two dominant setters with freshman
Andrea Schriver who averaged 4.69 assists per set and senior
Genna Karbowski who averaged 4.58 assists per set. Sophomore libero
Jacey Blust who was also a six-time WHAC Defensive Player of the Week led the Warriors with 6.07 digs per set this year while
Havilyn Cummings averaged 0.99 blocks per set.
For the tournament, Cornerstone earned the number one seed and a bye in the first round while Aquinas claimed number two and Madonna took third. Concordia claimed the sixth spot with Lourdes taking number seven. The semifinals will be Friday, April 9
th and the finals will be Saturday, April 10
th.
