LIVONIA, Mich. – Baseball earns season sweep of Madonna tallying a total of 37 runs between both games.
The Warriors started out strong in the first game scoring three runs in the top of the first.
Spenser McGhee singled through the right side to score
Jacob Alvidrez and move
Yeshua Saint to third.
Mike Snyder then singled through the left side to score both
Saint and
Alex Mitchell. The Crusaders responded in the bottom of the inning with one run to get back within two.
Tech's lead only extended in the top of the second with
Alvidrez hitting a double to left field to score
Reese Olden right before
McGhee hit a homerun over the right field fence for a three-run homer and a 7-1 lead. The Warriors tallied another homerun in the inning with
Christian De Los Santos sending it over centerfield for a solo homer and for Tech to lead 8-1. The Crusaders had two runs cross home in the bottom of the second to stay within five (8-3).
In the top of the third,
Saint put a ball in play that scored
Ritson and
Alvidrez right before
McGhee doubles to right center to score
Saint. Madonna tallied another run in the bottom of the third to put the Warriors ahead 11-4. Tech scored two runs in each of the next three innings while the Crusaders scored four in the bottom of the fifth. The Warriors were ahead 17-8 after the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Crusaders scored three runs before the Warriors were able to get the third out to put them down eight (17-11) with an inning left. Neither team scored in the ninth and the Warriors took a 17-11 win in the first game.
Zach Zaborowski earned the win on the mound pitching 3.2 innings with four strikeouts before
McGhee came in to pitch 4.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Jacob Howe finished the last inning with three strikeouts.Â
McGhee was 3-for-5 at the plate with one walk, one run and five RBIs.
In game two, the Warriors scored the first run again in the top of the first when
De Los Santos hit a single to right field that scored
Alvidrez for Tech to lead 1-0. The Crusaders rallied and scored four runs with two homers in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead after the first inning. In the top of the second
Jacob Daftari answered Madonna's home runs with a homer himself out of left field. The Crusaders scored again in the bottom of the second to keep a three-run lead (5-2).
The Warriors started a comeback in the top of the fourth when
Ritson put a ball in play to force an error that scored
Daftari and loaded the bases.
Saint then grounded out but scored
Olden to get two more for the Warriors. In the top of the sixth,
De Los Santos hit a grand slam over right center to score
McGhee, Ritson and
Alvidrez and give the Warriors their first lead 8-5. The Crusaders answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer over left center that put Madonna within two (8-6).
In the top of the seventh the Warriors went on a scoring spree starting with a single from
Ritson that scored two before a double from
McGhee scored two more.
Alex Mitchell scored on a wild pitch and
Manuel Ascanio singled through the left side to score another run.
Daftari hit
Snyder in with a double down the left field line before
Parker Bates scored on an error. With the bases loaded,
Ritson earned a walk to score
Daftari before two more runs crossed home with a ball put in play by
Saint. The Warriors scored 12 runs in the top of the seventh to win 20-6 in eight innings.
Charles Dunavan won the game on the mound pitching 5.0 innings with eight strikeouts and only one run.
Daftari went 3-for-4 at the plate with four runs and one RBI while
De Los Santos was 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs.
The Warriors are back in action today as they wrap up conference play at Lawrence Tech for a double header starting at 3 p.m.
