Warriors Advance to NAIA Title Game With Double OT Thriller

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team defeated No. 6-ranked University of the Cumberlands in double overtime, 10-9, Friday evening to advance to the championship game of the 2021 NAIA National Invitational at Memorial Stadium. It's the first-ever trip to the national title game for the Warriors.
 
Tech (18-1) will face off with No. 1-ranked Reinhardt University, who handed the Warriors their lone loss of the season back on March 10 in Fort Wayne, for the red banner and national championship trophy on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. from Memorial Stadium.
 
How It Happened
  • The Patriots started off the game on a 4-1 run, including two goals in the first three minutes of the semifinal contest.
  • The Warriors came back in the second quarter with three goals to tie the match up at 4-4 at the end of 30 minutes and continued their run in the third and the start of the fourth with four more goals for a 7-0 to hold an 8-4 lead with 12:06 to play in the game.
  • Cumberlands rallied for five goals in an eight-minute stretch to go up 9-8 with 2:30 to play in regulation, but Emmett Coleman kept the Warriors season alive with the game-tying goal at 51 seconds.
  • Playing in their first overtime contest since March 3, 2019, which was also against the Patriots in Williamsburg, Kentucky, Tech had five shots on goal in the first four-minute period, but couldn't find of the back of the cage but held UC to just two shots.
  • After winning the opening faceoff of the second overtime period, Khanan Bodley found Andrew Ryan wide open on the left-side of the cage for the game-winning goal with 3:09 to go to send the Orange and Black to the title game.
 
Evan Schuster made a season-high 16 saves in the game, Andrew Ryan had three goals while Andrew Neller went 14-22 in the faceoff zone with six ground balls.
