DEARBORN, MICH. – The No. 17-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team picked up their fourth straight win as they finished the series sweep of UM-Dearborn by a score of 85-63 Saturday afternoon. With this win the Warriors improve to 20-2 overall and 12-1 in WHAC play.
The Warriors were paced by a triple force behind the efforts of
Emma Tuominen,
Kyra Whitaker, and
Erika Foy. The trio combined for 62 of the team's 85 points. Tuominen led the way by posting her seventh double double on the season with a game-high 24 points on 12-17 shooting and 16 rebounds, to go along with two assists. Whitaker added in 20 points and dished out three assists. Foy was very active on the floor pouring in 18 points while also corralling 20 boards making it a career high. The tremendous rebounding effort by Foy and Tuominen would highlight Tech's 53-33 advantage on the glass.
The game started off cold for both teams until the visitors broke the scoreless run at the 8:23 mark with a good layup by Tuominen. The first period would go back and forth, but Dearborn only came within one as the Warriors took the lead right from the start and held the lead for the entire contest. The lead only continued to grow as the Warriors continued their dominant performance and saw their largest lead of the half being 20 points with 28 seconds to go before a good three pointer by the home team to cut it back down to 17.
The second half was not much of a different story. Dearborn poured in 36 points in the second half and outscored the Warriors in the final period, but it did not have much effect as the Orange and Black saw their largest lead of the contest being 30 points with 5:06 remaining. Even with the efforts of Dearborn's leading scorer, Mariah Taylor, who posted 20 points for her squad, Tech would prove to be the better team and go on to win by a margin of 22.
Tech returns to action at the Schaefer Center tonight to host Madonna (5-13, 4-5 WHAC) at 6 p.m.
