FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech men's volleyball (9-0, WHAC 3-0) won their ninth straight game by winning 3-1 against RV Aquinas (6-1, WHAC 2-1) Saturday evening to continue their undefeated start to the season.
Raekwon Rogers led the way for the Warriors by notching 11 kills to go along with two aces, two blocks, and one dig while hitting .667.
Daynte Stewart also added 12 kills and nine digs while
Brandon Jones had a game high 39 assists to go along with 7 digs and one ace.
Joey Hermes added 15 digs while
Chase Christiansen led the block category by posting 6 blocks.
The Saints got out to an 11-8 lead to start the first set before a 6-0 run by the Warriors, giving them the 14-11 advantage. The visitors would capitalize off a few errors made by the home team to make the score all even at 14. The Orange and Black would score the next point and lead the rest of the way before finishing the set off with a kill by Raekwon on an assist from Jones.
Tech dominated the second set by never letting go of the lead and only allowing a few tied points. Aquinas managed to fight their way back several times throughout the set, but it was not enough as the host went on to win the set 25-21.
The third set looked a little differently for the Warriors as they found themselves down 16-9 before cutting the lead down to three after a 4-0 run by the Orange and Black. Yet, it was not enough as the Saints held on to their lead the rest of the set and win 20-25.
Coach Shondell's crew was on the better end of things in the fourth set. Aquinas took the first two points and then led 3-2 to start the set, but this would be the only real advantage they would have before Tech went on to win the next six points and never turned back by absolutely controlling the set and winning 25-13.
The Warriors will be back in action Tuesday, February 1 to host WHAC opponent Mount Vernon Nazarene University for a 7 p.m. start time.
