FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech men's wrestling team defeated No. 18-ranked Lourdes University 20-16 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day inside the Warrior Athletic Center.
The Gray Wolves took the early lead by winning three of the four bouts to go up 12-4, with
Conner Gimson earning a 12-3 major decision at 133-lbs. A 5-0 win from
Nate Wheeler cut the deficit to 12-7, but Lourdes won the next two bouts to push its lead to 19-7 with three bouts to go.
Eric Vermillion was en route to a major decision before a flagrant misconduct and disqualification were given to his opponent, giving the Warriors six team points while Lourdes was deducted three team points to bring the score to 16-13. A 10-5 win from
Jacob Brandt knotted the dual up at 16-all while a 13-3 major decision from
Vernon Willis, Jr. gave Tech the 20-16 win as they staved off the upset.
Tech (10-2) returns to action Friday as they host No. 10-ranked Marian University in their final dual of the season. Action is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
