FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The No. 22 Indiana Tech men's soccer team topped ninth-ranked UNOH 2-0 on Wednesday night at Warrior Athletic Field.
Douglas Appiah and
Luke Jones tallied the Warrior goals, leading the Orange and Black to a familiar position atop the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference table with 12 points from four league matches.
The visitors started the game well, creating some early pressure on the Warriors. UNOH out-shot Tech 7-2 in the first half and four saves from
Jaume Salvado kept the match scoreless at the interval.
The Warriors came out of the locker room a different side, dominating territorially. One of the first warning shots was the result of a show of speed from
Lucca Motta down the right flank to keep a ball in play. After some nimble footwork to get to the endline, the junior slotted a ball back to
Aaron Asamoah. The freshman shaped a right-footed effort toward the back post but his shot rattled the crossbar.
Moments later, Motta started the sequence for the opening goal in a similar fashion. Operating down the right-hand side, Motta this time found Appiah in a nearly identical position to the previous Asamoah curler. Tech's No. 9 fought off a UNOH challenge and cleverly toe-poked the ball in to the back of the net past Racer goalkeeper Simon Sanchez for his first Warrior tally.
Indiana Tech doubled its lead on a 25-yard free kick from Jones in the 76th minute, which effectively killed off the game. The Warriors neutralized any attempts from UNOH at a late comeback as Salvado finished the second half with just one additional stop.
Tech (6-1-3, 4-0 WHAC) hosts a competitive Cornerstone University team on Saturday in Ft. Wayne. The Warriors and Golden Eagles (5-2-4, 2-1-1 WHAC) open the conference doubleheader with a 1 PM kickoff before the Tech-CU women's match at 4 PM. The Orange and Black own eight-straight wins in the series, including a pair of matching 5-0 wins in 2021.
