FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3 Ranked Indiana Tech women's hockey team hosted the University of Rhode Island for a weekend series in Fort Wayne on their home ice. The Warriors won the first game with a 6-0 final score on Friday night. Saturday Tech found the net eight times to win over the Rams 8-1.
After a scoreless first period in the first meeting of the weekend, the Warriors broke through, finding the net with a goal 7 minutes into the second period from
Megan Yakiwchuk on assists from
Izzy Pettem-Shand and
Ashley Episcopo. A few minutes later, Yakiwchuk doubled her tally for the night on an assist from
Dakota Bowler. Tech's third goal in the second period came from
Ashley Episcopo on an assist from
Arina Jusczak. Tech found the net three more times in the third period to give them the 6-0 victory. Goals in the third came from Allison Greene and
Dakota Bowler, who found the net twice. Assisting for the Warriors in the third were
Sterling Nesbitt and
Lauren Younker.
Tech kicked off game two finding the net quickly with a goal from Caylee Crowson 4:16 into the first period off an assist from Genessie Williams. The Warriors scored five goals in the second period. Michele Borland,
Dakota Bowler (3), Logan Bruns, and Genessie Williams all scored for Tech in the second on assists from Genessie Williams,
Arina Jusczak, Emily Jedson,
Izzy Pettem-Shand,
Izzy Varner, and
Lauren Younker. Tech netted two more goals in the third period, with Pettem-Shand finding the net on assists from Bowler and Younker.
Megan Yakiwchuk joined in on the scoring, with Tech's final goal on an assist from Pettem-Shand.
The Warriors are back in action on November 18, when they travel to Adrian, Michigan, to take on Adrian College to kick off their weekend series. Saturday, they will return home for game two of the series.
