ADRIAN, Mich. - The Indiana Tech women's wrestling team placed second at the 21-team Adrian College Open on Sunday, scoring 234 teams points to finish behind event champion North Central College (Ill.), which finished with 422.5 points.
The Orange & Black scored big at 101 pounds, securing three of the top four places. Sophomore
Sydney Kutzke (4-0) scored an 8-4 decision over Sacred Heart University (Conn.) freshman Aaliyah Payne-Harris to top the podium. Freshman Makayla Young (3-1) bested her Tech teammate Adriana Sanchez (2-2) by technical fall 12-2 to take third.
In the 116 pound bracket, freshman Isabelle Silva (4-1) earned the fifth-place position with a 13-2 technical fall over classmate Elizabeth Dollar (3-2).
Andrea Hernandez, another freshman, placed fourth at 123 with a 3-2 record, dropping her 3rd-Place Match by medical forfeit. Rookie Aubree Kuhns finished 3-2 on the day and took home seventh, following a fall over McKendree University's Megan Stutsman at the 2:25 mark.
Junior Charmayne Delong (3-2) was Tech's top finisher at 130, going 3-2 and taking seventh by fall over Bethany Regione of Aurora University (Ill.) in 2:54.
At 143,
Glenda Veiga (2-2) placed sixth, falling to North Central's Riley Aamold in the fifth-place bout.
Junior
Autumn Terhune closed out her weekend with a 4-1 Sunday, finishing third at 170 by way of a 24-second fall over Andreia Lanley of Emory & Henry (Va.).
Riley Dempewolf, a freshman, scored first-place honors in her division with a 3-0 record and capstone fall over Vera Yisela of Davenport University (Mich.) in the third and final match.
The Warriors return to the mats later this week at the two-day Missouri Valley College Open November 19-20.
