MARSHALL, Mo. -- Indiana Tech put three on the podium after two days of wrestling at the Missouri Valley College Open Nov. 18-19. Freshman Riley Dempewolf took top honors in the open 235 division, scoring three wins including a 6-4 decision over William Jewell College's Alexis Cole in the final.
Dempewolf started the event with a bye, then earned a 10-0 technical fall over Missouri Valley's Samantha Mumm in the quarterfinal. She took the semi via DQ, before outlasting Cole to win the event.
Senior
Perla Ramirez also had a strong showing in that bracket, going 3-2 to place 5th. with both defeats at the hands of Rewa Chababo (University of the Ozarks). She knocked of Mumm 7-2 in Consolation Round 2, following that up with a pin of William Jewell's Sydni Scott in 3:20.
Tech's third placer was Ellyana Kuzma, who took 7th at 136 with a 5-2 record. The junior scored bonus point wins (two falls) in each of her first three bouts, before dropping a quarterfinal match to Augsburg Unviersity's Blanche Kemu Makem. She advanced to Consolation Round 7 via forfeit, where she lost to unattached competitor Sierra Brown Ton. Kuzma capped the event with a fall over Life University's Riley Dalrymple in 2:33 in the 7th-place match.
Tech returns to the mats at the Patriot Duals in Williamsburg, Ky., December 2-3.
