ADRIAN, Mich. -- Indiana Tech closed the regular season with a 3-2 loss at Siena Heights University Saturday. The Warriors rallied from 0-2 down to force a fifth set and ultimately pushed the Saints in to extra points before falling 17-15 in the decisive game. Despite the loss, Tech earns the No. 3 seed in the upcoming WHAC Tournament. Lourdes will visit Ft. Wayne for a 3:30 PM quarterfinal match on Wednesday, November 9th.
As it has all season, Tech fought back from an early deficit in the regular-season finale. SHU took set one 25-21 and the second 25-23, but the Orange & Black fought back to take set three 25-21 and the fourth frame 27-25. Tech fell behind 12-9 in the third set, but earned four-straight points to lead 13-12 on a
Madison Mayes service ace. After an SHU point, Tech served on match point after Noelle Van Oort's 22nd kill of the afternoon and served for the match again at 15-14 after her 23rd. From there, the home team scored the final three points to earn victory.
Taylor Paul and
Emma Westra joined Van Oort in double digit kills with 10 apiece.
Kelsey Schaldenbrand dished 29 assists, followed by
Andrea Schriver's 24.
Jacey Blust claimed 32 of of Tech's 127 digs in the match, while Van Oort showed off her all-around game with 25 digs of her own.
Cornerstone University took home the regular-season WHAC title and will start the league tourney as the top seed. Siena Heights is the No. 2 seed, just ahead of Tech and fourth-seeded Madonna University. The four top seeds host opening-round matches on November 9th, with the top remaining seed hosting the final four on November 11th and 12th. The WHAC tourney champ will join Cornerstone in the NAIA Tournament, which kicks off with Opening Round play on November 19th.
