Warriors Clinch WHAC Title After Taking Down Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. – The No. 17-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team clinched their fourth WHAC regular season title after defeating Madonna 75-42.

It was a balanced attack for the Warriors with all five starters scoring in double digits. Erika Foy led the way with a game high 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Emma Tuominen had 15 points on 7-13 shooting, four rebounds, and three assists. Bethany Worm added in 13 points while also sharing team high rebounding honors with seven. Eileen Salisbury had 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while Taya Andrews added 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. Genevieve Decker-Terres had a solid performance off the bench, scoring seven points, pulling down six rebounds, dishing out three assists, and coming away with three blocks.

The first quarter saw the Crusaders jump out to a 9-3 lead before a good layup by Tuominen and two good layups from Andrews to tie the score up at nine a piece. Tech saw their first advantage of the contest at the 3:01 mark and would never look back as this would be the only lead change of the game. The Warriors would go into the second period leading 17-16 before holding their opponents to only five points the entire quarter. The Orange and Black got off to a 10-0 start before the host knocked down a triple to end the run. Tech continued their scoring ways by finishing the half with 31 points to their opponent's 21.

The third quarter did not seem to be much different after the Warriors grew their largest lead of the contest to 25 points and holding Madonna to only 11 points on 26.7% shooting from the floor and 0-0 from beyond the arc. The Warrior's lead only continued to grow, not letting the home team even get within reach. Tech would go on to win in a very deciding fashion, improving their record to 26-2 overall and 18-1 in conference play, while Madonna drops to 7-19 overall and 6-11 in league play.

The Warriors return to action at home Monday night (Feb.14) as they face Rochester for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
