Tech Trades Wins with #8 IWU

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team traded wins with #8 Indiana Wesleyan (1-1, 0-0) Monday afternoon at Warrior Park. The Warriors were able to steal a win from the Wildcats 3-0 in the opener before falling the second game 8-2.

Game 1 | Indiana Tech 3-0 IWU

Ashley Alvey and her defense got things underway for the Orange and Black after an incredible catch by Alivia Doyle, a strikeout by Alvey, and a fly out to center to close out the top of the first inning. The Warrior defense continued to be strong with Alvey only facing nine batters through the first three innings and allowing zero hits.

The Warrior offense was sluggish to start, but the bats started coming to life in the bottom of third. Alyssa Fox homered one down the left field line to put the host on the board 1-0. The fourth inning was scoreless for both teams before Micaela Iacovetti would come out swinging in the bottom of the fifth inning, singling one up the middle to send two runners home and making the advantage 3-0.

The Orange and Black held onto their lead for the last two innings and would go on to win 3-0.
Tech's defense proved to be the difference maker in the game, only allowing two hits the entire contest with no errors, and Alvey having seven strikeouts.

Game 2 | IWU 8-2 Indiana Tech

After dropping the first game, the Wildcats started things off differently the second game by scoring two runs in the first and second inning to get out to an early 4-0 lead. The Warriors would strike back in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs on an Emma Chase RBI and an Alexis Galloway RBI, making the score 4-2.

IWU picked up right where they left off going on to score three more runs in the third inning and growing their advantage 7-2. Tech only had one hit through the next three innings as they struggled to find a good rhythm.

Both squads were scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning before the visitors scored their last run of the game on a double to right center. Although the Warriors were down 8-2, the final inning started looking like a possible comeback after a couple walks, a wild pitch, and an error. The bases were loaded for the Orange and Black, but it was not enough as Indiana Wesleyan was able to hold off the home team.

Tech (1-3, 0-0) is scheduled to play two double headers on February 25 and 26 at Warrior Park. The first double header is set for 2 p.m. with the second game to follow and the second double header is set for 1 p.m. with the second game to follow.
