FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana Tech softball team traded wins with #9 Olivet Nazarene (1-1, 0-0) on Tuesday evening at Warrior Park. The Warriors were able to steal a win from the Tigers 6-5 in 11 innings in the opener but fell 5-3 in the second contest.
Game 1 | Indiana Tech 6, Olivet Nazarene 5
Ashley Alvey, the WHAC Pitcher of the Week, earned the start for the Orange and Black. She managed to strike out two Tigers in 4.2 innings pitched. The Tech offense wouldn't cross the plate until the third inning when
Meagan Barton singled up the middle, allowing
Alyssa Fox to score. Making the score 2-1 in favor of Olivet. The Tigers would take a 5-1 lead into the 5th inning where
Karra Leeger-Capraro would single down the right field line, allowing
Alyssa Fox and Megan Berlin to score. In the 6th inning, it was
Alyssa Fox who smacked a two-RBI double, bringing home
Alexis Galloway and
Carly Basham, tying the game up at 5 runs apiece. The game was all knotted up until the 11th inning, when
Alexis Galloway walked it off, bringing home
Hannah Middlebrooks, and the Warriors had their second Top-10 upset of the young season.
Game 2 | Indiana Tech 3, Olviet Nazarene 5
After dropping the first contest, the Tigers came out swinging during the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Warriors would tie things up as
Emma Kelley brought home
Meagan Barton with a double in the first inning, and Megan Berlin scoring off of a Tiger error in the 2nd. The Tigers would respond with three runs in the 3rd inning, taking a 5-2 lead.
Emma Kelley brought
Meagan Barton home with a triple in the 5th, but that would be all she wrote for the Orange and Black, as Tech would drop the contest 5-3.
Indiana Tech (2-4, 0-0) is scheduled to play a double-header at #18 Marian (0-0, 0-0) with first pitch being at 2:00 PM at Marian Softball Field, with the second game to follow.
