BURTON, Mich. - The No. 6-ranked Indiana Tech women's ice hockey team ran through the Michigan Wolverines, 3-0 in the semifinal but were ultimately defeated by Adrian, 5-0 in the CCWHA Tournament this past weekend.
On Saturday, it was all Warriors as
Megan Yakiwchuk netted her 30th goal on the season, along with
Dakota Bowler netting her 25th and 26th goals, with
Izzy Varner making 9 saves in the win, Indiana Tech was able to advance to their first ever CCWHA Championship game, defeating Michigan by a final score of 3-0.
It was a different story on Sunday morning, though. The young Warriors would face off with the ACHA powerhouse, the Adrian Bulldogs, in the conference tournament championship. The Warriors got the better of the Bulldogs in 3/4 contests this season, but the veteran Bulldogs showed how much playoff experience mattered. With no scoring in the first two periods, it was anybody's trophy heading into the third, and that's where things fell apart for the Orange and Black. Adrian would score five goals in the final period, the Warriors wouldn't be taking the torch from them just yet. Despite the defeat,
Brooklynn Moore was named Tournament MVP.
The Warriors will await to see their placement in the ACHA Women's Division I National Championships that will take place from March 10-20 in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
