Warriors Swept by Blue Devils

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team dropped a pair of games to Lawrence Tech Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 and 7-4 at Warrior Field.

Hayes Sturtsman had the unlucky decision in game one as the senior went seven strong innings on the hill, allowing just two unearned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over 127 pitches. Lawrence Tech got a two-out double that was followed by a Warrior error and another double that put them up 2-0 over the hosts.

The Warriors had the bases loaded with one out in the third, but hit into a 5-2-3 double play and didn't get another base runner until the seventh. Ashtin Moxey kept the game alive with a two-out solo home run that was followed by a triple by Manuel Ascanio, but the Warriors were unable to get the tying run home as the Blue Devils took the opener.

The Warriors struck first in game two with a double steal of second and home that Parker Bates scored on, but the Blue Devils came back with two runs in the next inning, starting with a leadoff home run and a double that came around to score in an infield hit. A two-run homer in the seventh from LTU made it a 4-1 game before another leadoff homer in the eighth extended the lead to 5-1.

Tech scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Trevor Patterson and a one-out 2 RBI single from Brice Stultz, but the visitors got two runs back in the top of the ninth to make it a 7-4 game. The Warriors were able to load the bases with two outs, but could not cash in on Matt Olson who picked up the save by stranding the Warrior runners.

Tech (21-18, 9-7 WHAC) returns to action on Tuesday as they take on the University of Saint Francis over at Parkview Field in the Parkview Sports Medicine Baseball Classic. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. from the downtown ballpark.
