Warriors Churn Out 20 Hits, 18 Runs Over Cougars at Parkview Field

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team defeated their crosstown foes University of Saint Francis 20-1 in the opening game of the Parkview Sports Medicine Baseball Classic at Parkview Field Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors had 20 hits as a team while they limited USF to just three hits and struck out 17 Cougar batters. Jayden Reed and Ashtin Moxey both had four hits and three RBIs, with the former legging out three doubles. Brice Stultz was 1-1 with three RBIs, all of which came on a home run to right field, two runs and two walks while Manuel Ascanio was 3-4 with a double. Spencer Strobel picked up the win after going 3.2 inning in relief with six strikeouts and allowing just one hit over 14 batters and 69 pitches.

Saint Francis got on the board in the top of the first thanks to a pair of walks, two steals and an infield hit, but starter Jacob Spencer limited the damage to just one run by striking out a pair of hitters with multiple baserunners on. Tech answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to a one-out RBI double down the left field line by Jacob Daftari while Moxey drove in two with a two-out single to right field.

An error by Saint Francis with the bases loaded allowed two more runs to score in the fifth that was followed by a double by Reed that tacked on two more runs to extend the lead to 9-1. The Warriors continued the onslaught with six runs on six hits, including a big three-run bomb by Stultz, to push the advantage to 15-1 in the sixth.

The trio of Ryan Uhlenhake, Kris Massey and Zachary Zaborowski closed the game by striking out eight batters over the final four innings and allowing just one hit.

Tech (22-18) returns to action Wednesday as they host NCAA Division III foe Manchester University in a single nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Warrior Field.
