FORT WAYNE, Ind./BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. - The Indiana Tech softball team managed to sweep the Trinity Christian Trolls and split with their WHAC foe, the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils this past weekend.
Game 1 | Indiana Tech 13, Trinity Christian 10
It was a quiet affair from both teams throughout the first two innings, that it until the Warriors put up five runs in the third,
Micaela Iacovetti singled through the left side, sending
Carly Basham home.
Meghan Berlin would the smack a three RBI double, bringing home Iacovetti, Kenedi Sullivan, and
Olyvia Notter. Berlin would then score herself as
Meagan Barton grounded out to second. The Trolls would respond in the fourth with a two-run shot, but the Warriors kicked it into gear once again with another five-run inning. Notter would singe to left field, bringing home
Maire Trouba. Sullivan would folow up with a two RBI triple, bringing home Notter and
Emma Kelley.
Alyssa Fox would reach on a fielder's choice while bringing home Berlin to make it 10-2 in favor of Tech. The Trolls, however, would not just roll over and quit, as they would go on to score eight runs in the fifth inning, tying the game heading into the sixth at 10 runs apiece.
Amanda Parker swung the momentum back in favor of the Orange and Black, singling down the left field line, sending home Barton.
Alivia Doyle would then send a ball to left field, scoring bot Parker and Fox to give Tech a 13-10 lead, which would be the final score. Despite being relieved in the fourth inning,
Hannah Middlebrooks would re-enter in the fifth inning and finish off the game, pitching six total innings, striking out six Troll batters, and earning her sixth win on the year.
Game 2 | Indiana Tech 6, Trinity Christian 1
The Trolls would strike first in game two (second inning), but in the end this one was commanded by the home team. Berlin came home off of a fantastic bunt by Fox in that same inning. In the third, it was Trouba coming home as Sullivan would reach on a fielder's choice, giving Tech the lead at 2-1. Kelley then scored as Berlin grounded out to second, and Iacovetti brought home Sullivan when she singled up the middle. The Warriors would carry a 4-1 lead going into the fourth, where Doyle scored off of a sacrifice fly by Parker and Barton doubled to left field, which brought home Trouba. 6-1 would be the final score.
Jaden Romero pitched her second complete game of the season, striking out two Troll batters, and improving her record to 2-4.
Game 3 | Indiana Tech 3, Lawrence Tech 4, F/8
Berlin and the Warriors would strike first, as she scored on a throwing error by the Blue Devils in the second inning. Lawrence Tech would respond with a home run, making it 1-1 heading into the third. Trouba would score as Barton would ground out to second, and Berlin and Notter would both steal home later on. The Blue Devils would not be denied, as they would score runs in the fourth and seventh to tie the game at three, and this one would head to extra innings, where the Blue Devils would connect on a walk-off home run, taking it 4-3.
Hannah Middlebrooks pitched a complete game, striking out one Blue Devil in 7.1 innings pitched.Â
Game 4 | Indiana Tech 12, Lawrence Tech 3, F/5
The Warriors didn't take game two lightly, as they would put the first four runs on the board. In the first, it was Fox singling to left, sending Barton home while in the third inning, it was
Reilly Johnson who hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Berlin, and then Fox scoring on a throwing error after
Kendall Hornung hit one to right field. The Blue Devils responded later that inning with three runs of their own, making it 4-3 in favor of the Orange and Black. Indiana Tech increased their lead in the fourth when Fox brought home
Carly Basham,
Bella Brock would single up the middle and bring home Sullivan, Berlin would later score on a wild pitch, and Trouba would bring home Fox after singling to left field. Making it 9-3 in favor of the Warriors. In the fifth, it was Barton who would score as Sullivan grounded out to second base, and the Berlin hitting a two-run shot to left field, ending the game due to the eight run rule by a final score of 12-3.
Jaden Romero pitched her third complete game of the season, striking out three Blue Devil batters and improving her record to 3-4.Â
Indiana Tech (15-18, 8-4 WHAC) will take on the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines (21-7, 12-2 WHAC) in a double-header tomorrow at Warrior Park, first pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
