Warriors Split with WHAC Leading Wolverines

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana Tech softball team earned a split with the (former) best team in the WHAC, the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines. The Warriors crushed the Wolverines in game two, defeating them by a 11-2 score in just five innings.

Game 1 | Indiana Tech 1, Michigan-Dearborn 5

The Wolverines struck first in the very first inning, while the Warriors would respond later on in the third. Emma Kelley flew out to right field, scoring Maire Trouba on a sacrifice. But that would be the only run for the Orange and Black, as the Wolverines would erupt for a four-run fifth inning, and taking the contest 5-1. Jaden Romero pitched a complete game, striking out three Wolverine batters.

Game 2 | Indiana Tech 11, Michigan-Dearborn 2

Once again, it was the Wolverines who struck first in the first inning. But the Warriors weren't going to back down, Kelley would again bring home Trouba, reaching on a Wolverine error. Kenedi Sullivan would then bring home Kendall Hornung on a sacrifice fly to the right fielder to give Tech a 2-1 lead. Later on in the first, it was Micaela Iacovetti who singled home Kelley, giving Tech a 3-1 lead heading into inning number two. The Warrior offense wasn't done, Hornung hit a sacrifice fly to center field to send Alyssa Fox home, and then Trouba would score on a passed ball. Olyvia Notter then would single through the right side, allowing Sullivan to score, making it 6-1 in favor of the Warriors. The Maize and Blue would score a run in the third inning, but the Warrior offense again had an answer, and then some. Emma Kelley hit a bases clearing triple, doubling down the left field line, making it 9-2 in favor of Tech. Olyvia Notter singled to left field, allowing pinch-runner Carly Basham to score, and the Warriors would take a 10-2 lead into the fourth inning. In the fourth, Trouba grounded out to second, but Fox would score on the play, making it 11-2 heading into the fifth. The Tech defense took care of business, catching the Wolverines trying to take extra bases twice, and then getting a fly out to end the game. Hannah Middlebrooks had a fantastic outing, pitching a complete game on just 86 pitches to improve to 7-7 on the year.

Indiana Tech (16-19, 9-5 WHAC) will look ahead to Friday where they will take on the Cornerstone Golden Eagles (11-13-1, 6-6 WHAC) at Warrior Park for a double-header, with first pitch being scheduled at 1 PM.
