ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Indiana Tech softball team closed out regular season play by splitting with the Roosevelt Lakers of the CCAC, taking the first game 7-6, but falling in the latter contest, 7-11.
Game 1 | Indiana Tech 7, Roosevelt 6
The Warriors got things started off in the very first inning, with
Maire Trouba, as she got on after being hit by a pitch, then proceeding to steal second, and then third, scoring after a throwing error to put Tech up 1-0. Roosevelt would respond with two runs of their own before the Warriors and Trouba would strike again in the second, as she would reach on a fielder's choice, sending
Meghan Berlin home. Later on that same inning,
Kendall Hornung would double to left center, clearing the bases and sending home Trouba,
Alivia Doyle, and
Bella Brock to put Tech ahead, 5-2. In the fourth inning, it was Trouba again, as she would single to left center field, bringing Brock home to take a 6-3 lead. The Lakers would manage to tie it up in the fifth at 6-6 before Hornung would single to right fielkd, bringing home Doyle for the winning run. Indiana Tech would take game one, 7-6.
Hannah Middlebrooks earned her 10th win of the season, pitching seven innings of work, and striking out four Laker batters.
Game 2 | Indiana Tech 7, Roosevelt 11
The first inning was all Warriors, as Trouba would once again score on a fielding error by the Lakers.
Emma Kelley would single home
Alyssa Fox, with Kelley later scoring on a wild pitch. The Lakers would score in the first as well, making it 3-1 in favor of Tech. In the third, it was
Sydney Williams singling to right field to bring home Berlin and
Carly Basham, and then Iacovetti scoring after
Emma Chase grounded out, making it 6-1 in favor of the Orange and Black. Roosevelt generated a plethora of offense of their own, scoring ten unanswered runs to put the Lakers ahead 11-6. In the top of the sixth,
Amanda Parker would score on a passed ball, but that would be all she wrote, as the Warriors would drop the contest, 7-11.
The Warriors (23-22, 15-7 WHAC) finish out the regular season above .500 for the first time since the 2011 season. The Warriors earned a #4 seed in the upcoming WHAC Conference Tournament, and will next take on #5 Aquinas on May 4, at Pacesetter Park in Sylvania, Ohio.
