FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warrior's Volleyball team continued their winning ways on Saturday in the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament. Tech picked up a 3-0 sweep of Saint Ambrose University in the morning game and completing an exciting 3-2 comeback in the tournament's final match against IU Southeast. Tech kept its win streak alive, reaching 13-0 on the season.
Kelsey Schaldenbrand entered today's contest with 996 career assists. In the morning match, she picked up 11 assists, pushing her past the 1,000 mark for her career. Number 1,000 came in set one of the first match, which was an assist to
Taylor Sorg on a slide. Schaldenbrand added twenty-nine more assists in the afternoon match, putting her at 1,036 for her career. Tech won match one in three sets, 25-22, 25-13, and 26-24.
Noelle VanOort posted nine kills in match one and four aces.
Andrea Schriver led the team in assists and digs in match one, contributing fourteen and nine.
The afternoon match was back and forth, with Tech winning the first 25-16 before dropping sets two and three, 26-24, and 25-16. The team responded to the pressure and won set four, 25-19. The fifth set was a tight contest. Tech reached eight on the scoreboard first, forcing the switch on the court. After that, Tech never looked back; they maintained the lead the rest of the way, and a VanOort kill ended the game in Tech's favor, 15-13. VanOort led the team with twenty kills in the final match.
Madison Mayes contributed two aces,
Havilyn Cummings posted six blocks, and
Jacey Blust had twenty-four digs.
The all-tournament team consists of
Jacey Blust (Tech), Emilee Organ (IUSE), Ella Brooks (IUSE), Sadie Brenneman (GC), Desiree Anderson (USF), and Mackenzie Grafton (SAU). The tournament MVP was brought home by
Noelle VanOort (Tech). The Warriors won all four matches this weekend, making them tournament champions.
Tech is back on the court Wednesday, September 14, at the Schaefer Center, where they host WHAC opponent Concordia University (Mich.). The Warriors are 29-3 all-time in the series. They won all three matches against the Cardinals last season, only dropping one set. The most recent match up was a 3-0 sweep at home on November 10, 2021.
