Warriors, Fishman Extend Unbeaten Run to Start 2022

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team (6-0) extended its unbeaten run under new head coach Matt Fishman to six matches to start the 2022 season with a 3-2 win over Grand View (Iowa) and a 3-0 sweep of Avila (Mo.) at Bellevue University's Labor Day Classic on Friday. Noelle VanOort totalled 26 kills on the day and Jacey Blust came up with 48 digs to lead the Orange and Black. Havilyn Cummings continued her strong all-around start to the campaign with 19 kills, nine block assists, and three digs.Kelsey Schaldenbrand dished 22 assists in each match, followed by Andrea Schriver's 41 helpers.

Tech's win over GVU was an epic comeback after falling behind 0-2. The Warriors dropped the opening two sets by identical 25-17 scorelines, before knocking off the Vikings 25-17 in set three. The fourth set saw Tech take the final three points in a 28-26 thriller, before Fishman's crew dominated the decisive set to take the match with 15-7 triumph.

Indiana Tech began the nightcap with a strong opening set against Avila, followed by a narrow 27-25 win to go up 2-0. The Warriors left little to the imagination in set three, leading wire-to-wire for a 25-15 result and the accompanying match sweep. VanOort put away 16 kills on 30 swings (.467) and chipped in defensively with 12 digs as well for a match-high 18 points.

The Warriors continue play in volleyball-crazed Nebraska tomorrow with a 1 PM contest versus Ottawa University (Kan.) and a 7 PM matchup against Columbia International (S.C.).
